Thoroughly cleaning a room: the tips to do this like a pro

Almost nobody looks forward to the moment in which they have to spend hours thoroughly cleaning a room in the home, but there is no avoiding the fact that periodically, we have to bite the bullet and go well beyond our usual routine cleaning practices. This is the best way to guarantee household hygiene, and making the chores for the coming weeks and months easier. And it is often also an opportunity to check on the state of the room's furniture and various other surfaces, as well as perhaps an opportunity to get rid of objects that we no longer want (thereby freeing up space, too).

So, how should we go about this chore in the correct manner? There are some tips that can help us:

According to the professionals, in fact, there are a series of steps to follow to ensure the best result without wasting energy and time. These are described below:

  • Inspect the room a day (or more) before you need to clean it and make a list of things to do and cleaning products you need to buy. Seeing everything written in black and white and establishing an action plan helps us to keep everything in order and can also help us prepare mentally for the challenge that lays ahead.
  • Have envelopes, baskets and/or cardboard boxes ready to store all the objects that, while you are dusting / cleaning, you do not know where to put or that may have to moved to other rooms. It is wasteful to stop cleaning and start running around the house looking for a spot to move things to. You can do this later. So if you have a trolley and some empty shelves, you can put these boxes (as well as the stuff you are using for the cleaning), in a place which is much more convenient.
  • Open the windows: it is essential to ventilate the rooms for our health, and it makes the task more pleasant.
  • Get rid of anything that is clearly garbage. And, if possible, use at least a couple of bags in order to sort out the types of garbage so you won't have to do this later.
  • Always start at the top: dust and clean from the top downward, and don't forget the mirrors and windows.
  • Now sweep away the bulk of the dirt that has accumulated on the ground. If you can, use the vacuum cleaner for this task.
  • If necessary, resume washing and cleaning the various surfaces, always moving from top to bottom.
  • In a bedroom, make the bed after cleaning everything, but before washing the floor.
  • Wash the floor, close the door and come back only when everything is dry. Close the window (if you like) and enjoy the cleanliness of the room!
