Cleaning the bathroom: how to clear it out and tidy it up with care

The bathroom is one of the rooms in the home that we tend to clean more often, at least in the most important areas within it. More than in other rooms in the house, it is annoying to find a dirty or smelly bathroom. But it is also true that we do not always have the time to undertake a thorough cleaning which includes the clearing of units and drawers of things which are no longer needed.

So, when the time comes, it is best not to become discouraged and to face the cleaning day with a positive attitude. If you follow the proper steps, you will not waste your time and will soon forget the how fatiguing this chore can be. Below, you will find some useful ideas - also described and explained in a TikTok video from the Tidy Pro Tips account.

As soon as we step into a messy bathroom we have to consider getting rid of / removing everything that will stand in our way:

  • Mats, towels and bathrobes should go into the laundry basket or directly into the washing machine.
  • Inspect all the products that are on the shelves around the sink. First we can put them all in a basket and then you can think about rearranging them neatly. Alternatively, we can begin to make a selection of those items we want to keep and those we should throw away. Select everything that has expired or that cannot be used anymore (perhaps you can give some stuff away or reuse them in a different way) and put them in a garbage bag. Always check how best to dispose of certain items (like expired medicines).
  • Throw out all the trash.

All remaining items, should be placed in their respective places: drawers, shelves, interior of the units, baskets etc. Always have a microfiber cloth or a soft rag ready to dust all the packages you are putting back in place, which may have become dirty in the previous weeks or months.

When everything is perfectly cleared and cleaned (even the children's toys should be put in baskets or net bags), you can dedicate yourself to cleaning the surfaces of the bathroom. But before you start washing and using water, dust all the surfaces to remove the bulk of any dry dust and dirt, including hair.

Then pass the vacuum cleaner over the floor : you do not want to have to wash the floor when there is still hair on it which will be carried everywhere you go on the wet mop and rags.

At this point, choose your favorite products (even a DIY one you made) to clean the bathroom fixtures and also the shelves, mirrors, external sides of the bathroom units -  only at the end, wash the floor.

By doing things in this order, making the bathroom tidy, clean and fragrant in every corner is much less difficult than you might think.
