Do you want a bed that is always fragrant? We reveal some DIY tips

When in the evenings we are welcomed by the soft embrace of our bed, it is pleasant to find it clean, tidy and above all, pleasantly scented. This always happens on the day when we make the bed with freshly laundered sheets, but as the days pass, the less we can enjoy this little pleasure ... unless you resort to some tip and remember some useful advice.

There are also cases in which the laundry does not come out as fragrant as we would like from the washing machine or dryer. It is therefore worthwhile to employ some tips that can help us to always enjoy delicate and pleasant scented sheets.

At the time of washing you can use and do the following:

  • Baking soda: pre-treat the sheets by soaking them in a basin (or bathtub) of hot water in which you have dissolved 120 grams of bicarbonate. Half an hour is enough, and then you can continue with the normal wash.
  • White vinegar: 60 ml or 100 ml of white wine vinegar (or even alcohol vinegar, or apple vinegar) can help in the washing phase - both to make the laundry softer and to neutralize any bad odors. The important thing is to add the vinegar before the rinsing phase of the selected washing program. It is then recommended to air dry the laundry.
  • Of course, the scented sheets used in the dryer are terrific, but if you want a cheaper and more eco-friendly alternative, you can also do this yourself. You will need some white or very light-colored cotton, cut into squares and then soaked in a little water. Squeeze them out well and pour five drops of an essential oil you like over them and put them in the dryer with your sheets.
  • When storing sheets in closets, you can use various methods to perfume them. Not just traditional herb bags, but also a nicely scented bar of soap that you can wrap in a bit of cloth and keep in there, placed between the folded sheets.
  • A DIY deodorant for linen (which you can also use on curtains or cushions in the living room): in a spray bottle, mix together 350 ml of distilled water, 90 ml of pure, low quality vodka, 30 drops of an essential oil that you like (lavendar is recommended). Shake well and spray sparingly on the sheets after making the bed or when you want to freshen them up.

When the weather allows it, air the sheets out on the line (and in the sun) daily during the week in which you use them on the bed - even this simple action will makes many bad smells disappear.
