Having to deal with dark circles under the eyes (bags) is for some a daily battle, for others it is an occasional occurrence: the dark skin around the eyes, in fact, can have many causes. It can be a symptom of stress, an unbalanced diet but also a lack of adequate night rest, tissue dehydration, smoking, allergies, alcohol and more. Discovering the reason certainly helps us to combat the presence of these dark bags that weigh down the eyes, but we can also help alleviate them with an absolutely natural eye contour mask.

It is a product based on turmeric, a spice obtained from the root of the homonymous plant, which is widely used in cosmetics and is known and exploited for its many beneficial properties since ancient times. It has also been an object of great interest in the world of DIY cosmetics for a long time, even for specific products to highlight the eyes contours. Among the many beauty tips of this type there is also one, presented by blogger Alexandra Potora on Instagram, which has gone viral. Read on to find out more:

Specifically, this method involves using turmeric powder and buttermilk (or fermented milk). The former contains curcumin, a substance capable of reducing the damage created by UV rays, fighting the most common rashes and lightening the skin. Buttermilk, on the other hand, contains lactic acid which is useful in gently exfoliating the skin to remove dead cells and promote its regeneration.

What do you need:

  • 1 tablespoon of turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon of buttermilk (or curdled milk). If you do not have buttermilk at home, you can prepare it yourself easily - we will explain how to do this below.
  • A small bowl
  • A spatula or spoon
  • A small brush

Preparation and application

  • Mix the two ingredients with a spatula (perhaps an one of some used face mask kit) in a small bowl to create a light mask paste.
  • With a brush apply the mask under the eyes, where you usually use eye contour products. Avoid getting too close to the tear ducts or getting the product in the eyes.
  • Leave the mask on for 15 minutes.
  • Remove with a soft wet towel. Don't worry about all the yellow residue which forms on your skin, you will be able to rinse it off easily.
  • Continue by washing your face as usual.

To prepare buttermilk, you can use two methods:

  • With fresh cream: whip 250 ml (or less) with a whisk not only until it is foamy, but continue until it "seperates", i.e. when it becomes solid, stiff and grainy. With a cheesecloth, drain away the liquid, which is your buttermilk. The solid part, on the other hand, will be butter!
  • With skim milk, low-fat white yogurt and lemon juice: mix together milk and yogurt in equal parts (for example, two tablespoons or 60 grams / 60 ml), then add the filtered juice of a lemon and mix well with a whisk . Let it sit for 10 minutes before using it. It is also useful in the preparation of desserts and certain types of bread and leavened products!

Before applying DIY products on your skin, make sure you do not have allergies to any of their components, and always use only fresh ingredients.
