Make your own natural, super moisturizing body butter

Properly moisturizing the skin of the body is much more than a habit: it is a way to support the general health of our body and counteract the drying out often caused by very hard water we use when we shower, or maybe even the bubble baths that can be a little too aggressive. If you want to try a product to nourish and moisturize the skin of the body based on natural ingredients and which is very rich, you can give the body butter that we propose below a chance.

It is based on Shea butter, an edible substance that is extracted from the kernels of the shea, a plant native to Africa. It can be easily found at the market in abundant quantities, and by mixing it with a few other ingredients, you can prepare a customised and natural cream. Always make sure you do not have allergic reactions to any of the ingredients, and maybe try the product on only a small area of your skin (in the crook of the elbow, for example), monitoring the onset of any skin reactions in the next 48 hours. However, consult a doctor if in doubt.

Ingrediants

100 grams of shea butter;
30 ml of a nourishing vegetable oil: you can use coconut, sweet almond, avocado, jojoba, olive oil, etc.

To these you can add, if you want:

10 drops of lavender essential oil (or other flowers you like, such as rose, lily of the valley, jasmine, etc)
5 drops of an essential oil with a balsamic aroma such as mint,rosemary, or eucalyptus (which goes well with the floral notes).

Method:

  • Heat the shea butter in a double boiler, preferably using a glass bowl, keeping the heat low;
  • Add the vegetable oil and stir, then turn off the heat immediately;
  • As soon as the glass bowl with the butter and oil has cooled, put it in the fridge until it solidifies again. It must reach a consistency similar to that of butter;
  • It takes about 20 minutes, then you can take the bowl out and add the essential oils, mixing them with a whisk to mix everything well;
  • Transfer everything into a glass jar, and keep it at room temperature.

It will now be ready to use like any other body butter!
