Organizing a wedding can be extremely stressful for planners. One has a thousand things to do: pick the dress, the location, where to hold the reception, the menu, selecting the wedding favors and many, many other things.

Even the simplest of weddings requires extensive planning. But why not try to have a little fun whilst dealing with all these challenges? How? Well, there are some things you can have fun making yourself - read on to find out more:

You need a lot of "things" for a wedding, and it can be fun - or at least, stress-relieving - to make some of these things youself. This potential DIY list includes (and is not limited to): the invitations, the favors, the place settings, the seating plan display, bows for the cars, and much, much more.

Let's take a look at just a few of these DIY projects:

Let's start with a key item: the invitations. There are many commercial companies that you could turn to for these, but you can make your own too. Here's how to proceed:

  • Print out a sheet, containing all the pertinent information (date, time, location, etc);

  • Get a plasticized, lacey doily. Cut this to fit the sheet, as use it as a wrap-around envelope;

  • Add a label to the invite with the names of the invitees (perhaps using twine for this purpose).

Do you want something truly original at your wedding? What do you think about setting up a corner where your guests can leave you congratulation messages? Setting this up is easy:

  • Buy a stock of cards on which your guests can write down their messages;

  • Get a white picture frame, decorate it (perhaps with faux pearls), and frame a note inviting your guests to leave you a message on the cards. You could suggest that the cards will be read one year after the wedding, or on the honeymoon - the choice is yours;

  • Now, the question is: where will they leave these messages? Well, you can put out a decorated glass jar for this purpose (like the one shown here).

3. Cones for rice

What else can you do yourself? Well, you know that at the end of the ceremony, the guests will shower the bride and groom with rice, flower petals and confetti. Make confetti holders using plasticized doilies (to match the above-described invitation). Form these into a cone shape and seal them in place with a little hot glue.

And, if you prefer, you can dye the rice. Do this by putting colored crepe paper into some water and leave to soak for 30 minutes. After this time, will see that the color will have leached into to the water. At this point, soak the rice (to absorb the color), then rinse off and dry. For a stronger/bolder shade, repeat this process several times. Now your colored "confetti rice" is ready to be put in the cones.

What else can we make for the wedding?

As mentioned, there are many items needed for a wedding that you can make yourself - the above three projects are just a small "sampling".

And, of course, making wedding items with your own hands will be much more appreciated and admired than simply buying some mass-produced, commercial equivalents.
