Dust is a combination of particulate matter in the air - animal hair, hair, bacteria, mites, dead skin cells and more. There are many products on the market that claim to be able to clean away dust and keep it at bay. However, most of these products are ineffective. That said, there is one product you can make at home that will give you excellent anti-dust results.

This "dust-busting" product is easy to make, and with ingredients you probably already have at home.

Here's what you need:

  • A spray bottle
  • Water
  • Vinegar
  • Olive oil

Mix together 4 cups of lukewarm water, 1 cup of vinegar and add 1/3 of a cup of olive oil in the spray bottle. Once thoroughly mixed, commence with the dusting. First, wipe down the surfaces with a microfiber cloth/duster to remove the bulk of the dust. Once done, spray your DIY detergent on the surfaces and wipe clean again with another clean cloth. The thin residue of the oil in the spray is the "magic" anti-dust ingredient.

The olive oil residue will create a protective patina on the cleaned surfaces that will repel dust for a significant time. Of course, keeping dust away completely is impossible, but the oil will slow down its' return.

And, in addition to being a dust repellent, olive oil will also nourish (and shine) any wooden furniture it is used on in this manner.

Happy dusting!
