Avoiding using dark colors is the way furnish without taking "risks", but this approach is not always the best. Recent trends show a growing preference for dark and deep tones, reversing the popularity of light, Scandinavian-inspired decor.

The bedroom is the perfect place for using dark colors: amongst other things, dark colors absorb light which helps facilitate peaceful sleep.

The first dark colors you probably think of when you imagine a dark room are probably black or dark grey. Black is an "extreme" color, but should not be used everywhere. Black should be toned down with other shades that are a little less dark, in a graduated manner

In a room where black is the dominant color, there is, of course, the possibility of using grey for other items of the decor

Dark walls, along with neutral floors - like in this example - conveys the warmth of natural wood: it is a combination that makes the bedroom look and feel like a "cocoon" . It should be noted, however, that in very dark rooms, an oppressive feeling can be banished by lots of natural light.

In fact, good exposure to natural light is key to the success of using dark colors in any room.

Velvet and matte paint finishes: this is a combination of great elegance, mystery and charm. This decor can then be enhanced with white sheets, golden ornamental details and soft lighting. Similarly, even soft colors such as pearl grey and satin metals go well with this sort of decor.

A similar setup can be done with green, which is increasingly more popular these days in interior design choices. If blue reminds you of the soothing sea, green immediately transports you to the calm of a forest. And combining green with wood and furnishings in warm colors, helps to intensify this calming feeling.

If the surfaces we paint with dark colors is very large, it could make the room look bland: to liven the room up, use decorative moldings and fill empty space with unique, matching ornaments and furnishings.
