Over time, some rooms in the home can becoming boring to us. So, when this happens - and the room is the kitchen - what can we do? Well, there are ways to "refresh" the kitchen without embarking on a major restoration project.

Sometimes, just a few targeted interventions are all that is needed: these can be small touches that don't cost an arm and a leg but which will be effective. Curious? Well read on to find out more:

Changing the color palette in a room is the obvious way to uplift its look and feel. Just like we look different in a red sweater rather than a black one, the same is true for rooms and colors.

Given this, why not repaint all the kitchen fittings/units doors and frames? You could even decide to adopt the popular two-tone trend for kitchens: white for the upper cabinets and a contrasting color - even a dark one - for the lower areas.

For a more limited project, turn your attention to the countertops and/or the backsplash. There are a thousand options possible here, depending on the materials you intend to use, and the effect you want to create.

Certain types of stone, such as marble, are beautiful but can be expensive and high-maintenance. However, you can consider using other types of stone (like slate, quartz or granite), and even porcelain for the backsplash.

The "rule" is that the grouting between tiles must be a neutral color to reduce noticeability. But for kitchen backsplashes (and even in bathrooms), many decide to liven things up by choosing a "flashy" color for the grouting between the tiles, like in the example shown here.

Some modern appliance are very attractive and have stunning finishes: shiny, modern stainless steel, vintage pastels or contemporary matte - to name just a few. Shop around and don't settle for anything bland.
