For the last 7 years, one of the most famous plant sales sites in America, 1-800-Flowers.com, has declared what the "flower and plant of the year" will be: this "declaration" has significant impact in terms of influencing how interior design trends develop and come to fruition.
For 2024, 1-800-Flowers.com has stated that the flora which will be "all the rage" will be symbols of love and personal growth. These flowers and plants will encourage us to "express ourselves, cultivate joy and meaningful relationships with the most important people in our lives".
Specifically, peonies top the influencer's list when it comes to flowers, which "with their vibrant and delicate petals are the perfect symbol and accompaniment for romantic and celebratory occasions". In terms of plants, it's philodendrons, which "with their sensational foliage, inspire gardeners and design lovers to bring nature into the home."

The world of peonies is vast and fascinating, and we could write about it for ages! In eastern cultures, peonies are celebrated as a symbol of nobility and refinement. The arboreal species is the most sought after: these grow slowly, they are a somewhat demanding, and they can live for centuries!

The philodendron will be the top plant for 2024

Speak of "a philodendron" is a huge over-simplification: there are literally hundreds of species of this plant, all being very different from each other!
One of the most common philodendron species is found in homes all over the world (usually being species Philodendron hederaceum var. oxycardium). This popular species is a climbing plant, which can grow tendrils a few meters in length in a domestic setting (and even longer in the wild).
And then there are philodendron shrub species which are also commonly grown in homes. But in the wild, this species can become truly impressive trees!

But why have indoor philodendrons species enjoyed so much success? Well, philodendrons are not very high-maintenance, so they are suitable for those who don't have too much time on their hands and/or don't have decent horticultural skills.
Then, given their beauty (consider the holey-leafed monstera species, for example), it's no wonder philodendrons have enjoyed world-wide popularity.
