There is one product that most of us use for proper dental hygiene: mouthwash. Together with toothpaste, toothbrush and dental floss, this product is very important for flushing out food residue and keeping our mouths healthy and "disinfected". There are many types on the market: mint, whitening, delicate, washes for sensitive gums, etc. In short, everyone can choose the product that is right for them, perhaps after a chat with the dentist.

But did you know that oral use is not the only function for which this product is useful? If the answer is no, it's time to find out how else to use mouthwash around the home:

We usually use mouthwash only in the bathroom and for cleaning our teeth and mouth. But not everyone knows that this disinfectanting liquid can also have other uses. Let's see what the most common ones are and how mouthwash can actually be useful to us in "unconventional ways":

  • Toilet cleaning: The bathroom is one of the places where dirt and unpleasant odors are most common. It is important to keep the toilet clean and disinfected, for obvious reasons. In this sense, mouthwash could be useful to us. Just pour a cup of mouthwash into the toilet's cistern and leave it to act for about an hour.
  • Garbage bin: Food waste can cause the garbage/trash can to start to smell bad. Cleansing and perfuming the trash can with mouthwash is an excellent way to freshen itup  and counteract the strong odors caused by rotting waste.
  • Cut flowers: Not everyone is aware of this, but thanks to its components, mouthwash can be used to make the cut flowers in vases last longer. Adding a capful of mouthwash to the water will help the flowers last longer as it eliminates many of the bacteria present in the water.
  • Cleaning bathroom and kitchen tiles: In both these environments it is advisable - if you do not have other products available or if you want to try an alternative - to dilute a little mouthwash in water and clean the tiles with this mixture. Unpleasant odors, bacteria and mold will be eliminated.
  • Window/glass cleaning: Are dirty, streaked windows your nightmare? Mouthwash can give you a hand here and can replace the classic products for cleaning glass. You'll be amazed by the results.

We have seen above how many ways mouthwash can be used for cleaning chores around the house, but this product is also very useful for personal care:

  • Disinfectant for wounds and insect bites: Being an antibacterial - this is why we use it for dental care - mouthwash is also useful for disinfecting cuts and small wounds. It is even very useful in combating possible infections from scratches and for treating the itching from insect bites.
  • Foot spa: Combining mouthwash with hot water in a basin will help you relax and relieve tired feet.
  • Cleaning hands: If you don't have soap available, or you can't get rid of odors from your hands, you can use mouthwash.
  • Disinfecting toothbrushes: Obviously, mouthwash can be used for disinfecting toothbrushes. Of course, this must be done at regular intervals to eliminate germs and bacteria that could lurk on the brushes.

So, as shown above, mouthwash is not just for the exclusive use of dental hygiene and there are many ways to benefit from its inherent properties.

Did you already know about any of these alternative uses?
