Delicate and beautiful, Japanese anemones are amongst the most popular of plants found in gardens. They can tolerate the cold so they can be grown outdoors - perhaps with some mulch around the stems to protect against extreme cold. They usually lose their bloom during the winter, which bud again in spring.

We know sage as an edible, aromatic plant, and is used to flavor dishes and beverages. There some varieties of sage which are ornamental and are used for decorating. Sage loves sunny spots (at least 6 hours a day), they grow quickly, develop bushes of leaves and have long stems that bear flowers in many colours.

There are various varieties of sage and you just need to do some research to find the ones best suited to your local climate. Sage can tolerate the cold, but some varieties need to be sheltered in winter.

Rudbeckia is a large, showy flower much beloved by bees and butterflies. Furthermore, it has the great advantage of being drought tolerant. If you have a sunny garden, try planting some Rudbeckia for a stunning effect.

You can also try using large planters for them, but always be careful to check that the potting soil stays in good condition and not over-watered.
