When we cook our meals, the stove top inevitably gets grimy and greasy and, especially if we don't clean it immediately, this grime can get "baked on" and be very difficult to remove.

Burner covers (aka burner caps/grates), in particular, are often very dirty and difficult to clean. So what can we do to remove this baked-on dirt? Well, there are natural remedies we can use to solve this problem.

Let's find out together which cleaning methods to use for truly great results:

Use natural remedies to clean dirty burner covers as follows:

  • Laundry soda: this product is a highly appreciated stain remover and detergent used to removie the most stubborn stains from laundry - and it can be used on the burner covers too. Mix the soda with a little water to form a thick paste, which you can then apply (with a sponge) to the covers and leave to act for a few minutes before scrubbing off and rinsing. The second method instead involves soaking the burner covers in a basin containing water and laundry soda. After a few minutes, you can proceed with scrubbing them clean with a sponge and rinsing off.
  • Baking soda: if you don't have laundry soda, even simple baking soda can be used. You can sprinkle the baking soda directly on the covers, adding a drop of dish soap as you do. Then scrub with a sponge or a brush. Rinse off with plenty of water and dry with a microfibre cloth.
  • Salt and vinegar: this last remedy is very effective if there is limescale present. All you need to do is soak the covers for 30 minutes in a solution made with a cup of vinegar and 2 tablespoons of salt and then scubbing them clean with a sponge.

What if the stubborn stains are on the stove top instead? In this case, the best method to use is as follows:

Firstly, wipe the stove top down with a damp cloth to collect any bits of food. Then wash using a non-abrasive soapy sponge to get rid of any greasy spots. If the grease is solidified, use a 1:2 vinegar:baking soda paste, spread it on the stove top, then let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes before gently scrubbing it off with a soapy sponge. Dry the stovetop with a clean cloth, replace the burner heads and the grates.

Your oven will now be perfectly clean (at least, the stove top and burners will be)!
