Even the best quality cookware can get damaged over time with use. Scratches, burns and scorching can ruin our pots and pans, sometimes even beyond repair. In these cases, you can try to wash the pans by hand with special detergents, but even using these, you may not get great results.

But before throwing your cookware in the trash, you can try the following cleaning tip. In fact, a plastic bag and a few other simple ingredients will be enough to restore your cookware.

Check out the step-by-step procedure below:

To clean the bottoms and outside surfaces of your cookware, get the following ingredients:

  • a plastic bag;
  • a bottle of cola;
  • sodium bicarbonate (baking soda);
  • salt;
  • liquid dishwashing soap.

The first thing to do is put a cup of cola in a container, mixing it with two tablespoons of baking soda, then adding two tablespoons of liquid dishwashing soap and a tablespoon of salt. Mix thoroughly until all the ingredients are blended.

Now, put your pot or pan in the plastic bag and pour the solution into the bag. Seal the bag and leave it to act for at least one hour before reopening it. You will see that the dirt and scorch marks on your cookware item have completely dissolved. A bit of rubbing with a steel wool sponge will return your cookware to near-new condition.

But the plastic bag tip isn't the only natural remedy that will help you clean your cookware; two other tips in particular are very useful for this purpose and we describe these below:

  • baking soda and vinegar: turn the pan/pot upside down and cover it with baking soda, on top of which you will place some absorbent paper. Then add a spoonful of white vinegar and leave it to act for a few hours before scrubbing the pan. The dirt will disappear instantly.
  • coarse salt and aluminum foil: sprinkle the surface of your pan with salt and rub with crumpled up aluminum foil. After a few minutes, the dirt and scorch marks will disappear.
