Neglected parts of the fridge: often forgotten, it's important to clean these too

Cleaning the fridge is one of those chores that always takes up time and requires effort, so it's best to do it properly when you do do it.

In preparation of this cleaning, we may decide to consume as much of the stored food as possible in order to empty out the fridge. Then, we take out the shelves, wash them one by one and wait for them to dry. In the meantime, we wipe down the inside, the external surfaces and the handles. We might also clean out the back of the fridge, clearing any dust/dirt build-up.  But how many remember to clean the seals too?

We're referring to the rubber seals that run all the way around the fridge doors. These are essential to seal the refrigerator compartment and not let any hot air reach the insides (which can cause the fridge to heat up when trying to compensate for the higher temperature). But these seals also get dirty: dust, dirt and even mold can build up in them over time.

However, cleaning the seals is very easy and you don't have to do it too often. All you need is some hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Additionally, you will need a small bowl, an old toothbrush and a microfiber cloth. Remember to wear rubber gloves, even when using non-hazardous substances such as these.

Pour a spoonful of baking soda into the bowl and mix it with a small amount of hydrogen peroxide. This mix can then be used with the toothbrush to clean the seals, removing dust, dirt and mold. Once done, wipe down with a damp, soft cloth to finish the task.

This procedure will only take a few minutes and you will be sure that you have cleaned your fridge properly!
