Ice cream stains on clothes: to make them disappear, just look for the solution in the kitchen

The temptation to have ice cream peaks in the summer for many of us. However, eating ice cream in the heat without it melting and dripping on our clothes can be a real challenge: high temperatures encourage us to gobble down our ice creams before it drips all over us. And it's not just kids that get covered in melted ice cream!

So, what can we do when we have an ice cream accident? Ice cream stains can be difficult to get out if we can't treat them immediately. However, there is no need to despair: using just a few ingredients that you can find in the kitchen, you can save your favorite shirt!

By checking out the pantry or the refrigerator, we can find some useful allies in our fight against stubborn stains. Specifically, the ingredients that are effective are the following:

  • Citric acid, or lemon juice: squeeze the juice of lemon through a filter, or dissolve a spoonful of citric acid in a small bowl with 200 ml of water. Pour the liquid on the stain, soaking it thoroughly and wait a quarter of an hour. Then rinse out with cold water, gently scrubbing the fabric.
  • Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda: Mix a tablespoon of baking soda with enough hydrogen peroxide to create a paste, and spread it over the stain, covering it completely. Wait 20 minutes and then rinse off with warm water.
  • White vinegar (wine or alcohol vinegar): mix 50 ml of vinegar with 100 of hot water, then, using a clean soft cloth, dab the solution on the stain, until it is soaked. After about ten minutes, rinse and scrub out. You may need to repeat this operation to make the stain disappear for good.

Usually, if you act quickly enough, these methods will remove any ice cream stains. If, on the other hand, the ice cream has dried out, remove the bulk if it by gently scraping it off with a round-tipped knife, then soak the stained area in hydrogen peroxide, and leave it to act for at least half an hour before doing a regular wash. If light stains remain, try the above methods again.
