The principle stands: you don't criticize the tastes of others. But when those tastes are displayed to the whole neighborhood, a reaction can be expected. For example, if we had a ship as house, or a home entirely decorated in animal print, this would certainly attract looks and comments. It's hard to remain impassive when seeing a house that has been built upside down, for example.
