You can buy scented detergents, but you can also make them at home, with the aromas you prefer. And if we have to sweep and wash the floors, we might as well have a decent product for this handy. And when using commercial brands, the scent we like does not always last as long as we would like.

Given this, we provide below three methods of making your own, DIY floor detergents. Read on to find out more:

With white vinegar and essential oils:

  • 200ml of white vinegar;
  • 200ml of water;
  • 1 level teaspoon of dishwashing liquid or Marseille soap;
  • 30 drops of an essential oil of your choice (preferably floral or mentholated);

Procedure:

  • Mix the water and vinegar in a bowl;
  • Add the soap;
  • Finally, pour in the drops of essential oil. You can also use two or three different oils, but no more than three;
  • Pour everything into a glass jar or bottle.

Use: Just use half a glass each time, to be diluted in a bucket of very hot water.

With white vinegar and lemon juice:

  • 250ml of white vinegar;
  • 5 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice;
  • 20 drops of essential oil (lavender or mint are the ones that are best for purfuming).

Use: This is used as in the above method, and the acrid smell of the vinegar will be offset by the lemon juice (and also why the quantity of essential oils used can also be reduced).

With vinegar, baking soda and fabric softener:

  • 200ml of white vinegar
  • 60ml of laundry softener
  • 1 tablespoon of baking soda
  • Cold water)

Procedure:

  • Pour the vinegar into a bowl;
  • Add the fabric softener and baking soda and mix well;
  • Add a little water to dilute the mix and to facilitate pouring it into a jar or glass bottle (the capacity must be 750 ml to 1000 ml);
  • Add the water to the jar/bottle, and shake lightly to finish mixing it.

Use: use two or three tablespoons in each bucket of water.
