Win the battle against having constantly dirty skirting boards using this simple tip

When we dust and clean shelves, bookcases and the walls, a lot of the dislodged dirt ends up on the skirting boards. And a skirting board is in the perfect position to pick up all this cascading dirt.

When we clean the floors quickly, we don't always have time - or we simply don't remember - to clean the skirting boards as well. The best way to clean skirting boards is to pass a powerful vacuum cleaner over them - if equipped with the proper nozzle attachment. But if this attachment is missing (or we don't have one), or if the dirt needs to be rubbed off, what can we do? Read on to discover a useful, easy skirting board-cleaning tip:

This tip is about using - or better still, reusing - fabric softener sheets from your clothes dryer. They're tough enough not to break or crumple when you sweep them across the surface you're cleaning, and they're great at catching dust and dirt. In addition, they are perfumed, and will leave a pleasant aroma in the home.

We said "reuse", because to avoid unnecessary waste, it is best to use sheets that have already been used once or twice in the dryer. They may not be as perfumed as they were when they were new, but they will probably be still intact and can be used for dusting. And we can throw them away after we have cleaned the skirting boards.

So, after emptying out the dryer, store the used sheets in a container for later. A further advantage of using these sheets is that they have dust-repelling properties.

To clean off more stubborn dirt, the sheets can also be used as cloths by soaking them in a degreaser (or even a vinegar-based DIY product). Then, all you need to do to keep your skirting boards pristine is to clean them off with these sheets once a month!
