It's wonderful to have vases full of colorful and perfumed flowers to decorate the various rooms of the house, or perhaps to give extra large arrangements as gifts! But it is not so easy to find cut flowers, and they have the disadvantage of having only a few days - if not the hours - before they start withering. The solution? Dried flowers, maybe... Or artificial ones. To make artificial flowers, there is no shortage of DIY projects you can tackle.

Additionally, there is no need for expensive materials to make artificial flowers: you just need some colored paper napkins - like those used for parties. Read on to find out how to make amazing paper flowers:

For this flower, you will need a few napkins in the color you want - small square napkins are best. Stack two or three (or more!) on top of each other. Secure them by stitching the layers together with a small "x" in the center. At this point, take some scissors and cut away the corners to create a circle. Once this is done, you can make lots of cuts from the edge towards the center, stopping a couple of centimeters before the "x".

Now you just need to separate the layers, ruffling them up a bit, and your double flower will be ready to use wherever you want.

For these flowers, you will need to take two colored napkins and cut them in half, obtaining two equal rectangles from each one. Overlap the four equal cutouts, then start from one of the two shorter edges and fold all the cutouts together like an accordion. When you're done, tie a wire around the center, finally tucking the wire ends back: this will become the stem.

Now unfold the layers and shape your flower - done in a jiffy!

For these adorable carnations, equip yourself with normal white paper napkins and felt-tip pens in the color you want, as well as a length of iron or copper wire.

Cut a strip from the paper, and then fold it like an accordion. Tie it in the center with wire, then screw together what remains of the wire itself to shape the stem. With the marker, color only the ends of the still folded cutout, then open with your fingers separating the veils. You will see your carnations come to life in no time.

Obviously, you can also indulge yourself using shades of different colors for the various napkins of the same flower, for example, or you could make them perfumed with one or two drops of an essential oil!
