Anyone who has to clean glass knows how tiring and difficult it can be. One of the problems is getting rid of streaks which appear during the cleaning process.

In reality, following a few tips can solve this problem. Along with the proper tools and effective cleaning products, your windows (and glass) can gleam again. And the products do not necessarily have to be chemical in nature.

Here are some valuable tips for cleaning glass in an eco-friendly way:

Starting with the detergent to be used, this can easily be prepared at home using natural and easily-available products. You will only need:

  • Water
  • Ecological dish soap
  • Citric acid

Proceed by mixing 1 liter of water, two teaspoons of an ecological dishwashing detergent and two teaspoons of citric acid in a container. To give an extra touch of perfume and freshness, you can add a few drops of essential oil (lemon is best). Transfer the solution to a spray container and your glass cleaning solution is ready.

At this point, before proceeding with cleaning the windows, make sure that the fixtures are clean and free of dust and, if they are not, clean them. If you have the opportunity, do this task on a cloudy day rather than a sunny one. Contrary to belief, the sun does not help with this chore because it dries liquids instantly, increasing the possibility of creating streaking. You are now ready to clean the windows, in two steps:

Spray the cleaning product abundantly on the glass and clean it using a microfibre cloth. If necessary, repeat the operation twice, leaving the glass wet.

  1. Spray the cleaning product abundantly on the glass and clean it using a microfibre cloth. If necessary, repeat the operation twice, leaving the glass wet.
  2. Proceed with drying the glass off, using sheets of newspaper or old, lint-free cotton cloths. Make sure the windows are dry both externally and internally.

After performing these simple steps, the glass should be gleaming. To make the job easier in the future, clean the glass at least once a month.

Happy cleaning!
