Washing the floor is one of the chores we do most often. Everyone has their own methods, tools and favorite products to undertake this task.

In general, to disinfect and clean the floors of the house, we tend to use specific products - especially given that there are so many different types on the market.

But what if we told you that some people use products that are not really meant for cleaning floors? By continuing to read below, you will understand what we are talking about:

Illustrating a technique for washing the floor - as unconventional as it is apparently effective - is an Instagram user who shares household cleaning tips with her followers on a daily basis. She is @ilmondodirosa1 and her video demonstrates that you can make the floor shine with a DIY detergent. If you want to try out this technique, just follow these steps:

  • Fill a bucket with cold water.
  • Pour some dish detergent into the bucket together with a splash of liquid air freshener. Use small amounts of both products so as not to create too much foam.
  • Dip a rag into the mixture and then wring it out well.
  • Proceed with mopping the floor (with the rag) as you normally would.

This process might seem bizarre but the technique seems to work (as shown in the video). And perhaps it's not that surprising given the well-known degreasing and polishing properties of dishwashing liquid. The reasoning behind this might be that if it works for dishes, there's no reason it shouldn't work for floors. The addition of a perfume will guarantee a deeper cleansing and a nice smell. And that's all there is to it.

If you are curious to see this process in action, you can watch the video on @ilmondodirosa1's account. Who knows, maybe you will become a convert?

Will you try this, or will you stick with your own methods?
