Make mold and dirt disappear from refrigerator gaskets using a simple home remedy

Thoroughly cleaning the refrigerator is one of those household chores that we can never put off for too long: not only is it unpleasant to see dirt on the walls and internal shelves of this vital appliance, but when the dirt accumulates, it creates a health risk. And very often, mold also emerges, since it is a humid environment.

That's why every now and then we have to roll up our sleeves, empty the fridge, disassemble the shelves and drawers and wash everything. But how many times, during this thorough cleaning, do we also remember to take a look at the gaskets and seals that run all around the doors? These are generally made of resistant rubber, and have a "bellows-type" shape which serves to cushion impacts when we close the door. But these crevices are also a receptacle for dust, dirt and mold. Read on to find out how to clean these gaskets easily:

This is a really easy remedy, for which you will need:

  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)
  • A small bowl
  • An old toothbrush
  • Gloves
  • A microfiber cloth

The method is illustrated by the creator, veraloficial, on Instagram, and procedes as follows:

  • Pour a tablespoon of baking soda into the bowl;
  • Add a finger (you can eyeball it, you don't need much) of hydrogen peroxide;
  • Mix with the help of the toothbrush;
  • Still using the toothbrush, scrub this liquid mixture into all the nooks and crannies on the gasket;
  • Have the cloth ready and wipe it immediately over the gasket to gather up any residue, dirt and liquid.

You will notice that very little is needed to make any dark spots of mold disappear. Furthermore, hydrogen peroxide is ideal for eliminating mold spores, without being too aggressive on the rubber (as could be the case when using vinegar).

You can see in this short video how easy and effective this technique is.

Obviously, it is a tip that you can also use on the gaskets of other appliances, such as the freezer, washing machine or dryer.

Great job!
