When one thinks of furnishing kitchens and bathrooms, especially when it comes to choosing the sinks to equip them with, in the vast majority of cases these fixtures end up being in white, usually made of porcelain. In the kitchen, it often happens that they are made of metal or some kind of resin. More rarely, they are made of stone. Usually, though, they're all in light colors, or at least they have been for a long time.

But recently, black sinks - of any material or shape - are becoming more and more popular: they are fittings that catch the eye and  they are very elegant and modern-looking. But they also show off dirt much more quickly and visibly (especially limescale). Read on to find out how to clean black sinks properly:

  • White vinegar: just like on any sink, vinegar is an excellent way to combat limescale build-up on/in black sinks. It can be used neat or diluted with water, in equal parts.
  • Lemon juice: squeeze half of a lemon into a small bowl, and use the liquid with a wet, wrung out cloth, scrubbing around the sink. Then use another wet cloth to rinse off and a dry cloth to remove any residual water.
  • Denatured alcohol: this too can be used directly on a cloth, which however, must be dry before use.

  • Powdered clay: green clay is perfect for many household cleaning chores, including black sinks.
  • Black soap: another often overlooked ally of household chores, you will only need a few drops of black soap on a sponge to clean the sink.
  • Products for washing windows: to clean away the film that dulls a black sink, you can alcohol-based window cleaning products. Clean in the same way as you would a window.

To prevent the formation of stains in the sink, it is advisable to always keep a soft, dry cloth near the sink to wipe away any drips and splashes immediately.
