Marseille soap is one of the most used products for doing household chores: known mainly as an indispensable ally in doing the laundry, it can be useful for many other cleaning chores.

This soap has a simple formula, based on natural ingredients (although sometimes there are artificial ingredients added sometimes) and is very cheap. So, when it comes to using this classic bar of soap to clean your laundry, how do you do it properly? Read on to find out more:

Since it is a delicate soap, it can be used on virtually any fabric, even cashmere garments, hand-wash-only lingerie and even baby clothes.

To remove stubborn stains, you can use it as a method to pre-treat garments: just wet a bar of the soap and rub it on the fabric. Let it form a film of soap over the stain and then let it dry. Once done, you can wash the garment as you usually would, with a suitable program and the products you prefer.

If, on the other hand, you would like to use the Marseille soap bar to make a DIY laundry detergent, you will need:

  • A large pot;
  • 3 liters of water;
  • 150 grams of Marseille soap (flakes of the soap are best);
  • 220 grams of baking soda.

Proceed as follows:

  • Pour the water into the pot and bring it to the boil;
  • Pour in the baking soda and grated soap (soap flakes);
  • Mix with a wooden spoon until there are no lumps;
  • Let the mixture cool;
  • Store in an airtight container - a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid is fine.

Remember to shake the container well before using your detergent (which you can then use just like a commercial detergent). You can also make it more fragrant by adding 10 or 20 drops of essential oil during the preparation stage.

With minimal expense you will get an infinite supply of a multipurpose detergent!
