Pine cones have always been one of the iconic symbols of Christmas, as well as being useful for decorating. Being a natural resource - easily available for free and with a triangular shape that looks like a small fir tree, they are really very versatile.

Due to these characteristics, pine cones lend themselves to making an infinite amount of Christmas decorations of all kinds. There are many tutorials for cleaning, perfuming and using them online.

So, why not think about using pine cones for your decorations for Christmas? Below, are some ideas that might inspire you:

An great way to use pine cones is to get the kids involved. Due to their shape, they can be easily decorated - as in the example shown in the photo - with glitter, a small star on top and a candle attached to a cardboard base, together with the pine cone itself.

For a slightly more refined project, you can replace the cardboard base with a small piece of wood. By decorating the cones with details that match your furnishings (or the place you want to decorate), you will get, with very little effort, wonderful little Christmas trees.

And for some very nice baubles to hang on the tree, how about creating amusing little gnomes? Just add a small hat with a string loop (for hanging) and a bead to act as a nose. Your tree will certainly look very original.

Another classic of the holiday season is a wreath to hang on the front door. With pine cones stuck on a round base and decorated to your liking, making this decoration will be very simple.

If you have more time, patience and skill,  you could decide to try your hand at making a full-size tree made entirely from pine cones. The process takes time, but the result is truly exceptional.

Staying with decorations to hang on the tree, glue some pine cones together and decorate them to look "Christmassy". In the photo above, five pine cones have been joined together to form a star.

If you want to make wonderful table centerpieces with candles, you can draw inspiration from the one you see in the photo.

The glass sphere/bowl is another object that looks great as a Christmas composition. With pine cones placed inside it, it can look magical and very Christmassy.

And with any glass container, pine cones and fairy lights, you can create a truly wonderful Christmas atmosphere. Try it and you certainly won't regret it.

Do you now want to run outside and gather up a bunch of pine cones?
