And if you are tired of seeing the usual boring vase shapes, or would like to buy a nice vase but it's not the right time, don't worry. You can decorate old, time worn vases.

There are various techniques to try, depending on your tastes and the resources available. Below are some ideas to inspire you:

If you want to use glass containers, such as bottles of any shape and size (or boring, old vases or candle holders), a simple and colorful way to decorate them is to wrap twine or balls of wool, cotton or other yarns around them. Depending on which one you choose, or how you combine them, you can get either a rustic or modern look.

This also works with smaller bottles, and maybe you could use scraps of yarn with colorful shades. Always remember to keep some hot glue on hand, so as to secure the threads every few winds you make: the way, they will not slide up and down, and your work will remain neat and tidy.

A spray paint can (in a color you like) and any tape - even tape used for gift wrapping: randomly wrap the glass (or any other surface on which you can use your spray paint) with the tape, then spray the container evenly. When the paint starts to dry (not too early, but not too late), remove the tape and voilà! A wonderful stencil effect!

Pearls, shells, wood chips, fake gems: with the right glue, any vase can be transformed with fascinating details in relief.

Do you want simple glass or ceramic objects to look like precious terracotta items? Choose a paint of the right color, then give it the right consistency by mixing it with a little baking soda!

Then there is the drip technique: insert part of the vase into paint and pull it out , letting it drip. This can also be done with glitter, only for this, you will need glue and then sprinkle it with the glitter, blowing away any excess after the glue has set.

You can eve transform terracotta vases: they can be painted and decorated with shapes and colors, even letters and figures as desired, using acrylic paints. However, if you will use them with soil and plants that need watering, it is best to try to preserve your decoration for as long as possible by using a layer of waterproofing sealant on the inside outside of the pot.
