Laundry stripping: how to remove all the dirt from a baby blanket

For some time now, a fabric deep cleaning technique, nicknamed "laundry stripping", has become widespread online. The operation consists in soaking the item in question in hot water, together with a "cocktail" of products capable of deeply penetrating and removing the dirt from the fibers.

The proof that this happens is the color of the water which turns from clear (after some time) to dark and cloudy, testifying that the dirt has been removed. It is a sort of very deep pre-wash because it precedes a regular wash in the washing machine (aimed at eliminating the residue of the chemical products used). Due to the chemical nature of the products, however, it is a technique considered too aggressive for very delicate garments.

TikTokkers that have tried this technique are numerous. In one of these, the user shows how to carry out the operation on a child's colored blanket.

@caitmariereilly posted a three-part video on TikTok, showing how she treats her stepson's favorite blanket with laundry stripping to get all the dirt out.

To do this, she fills the tub with hot water and dissolves into it a cup of baking soda, one cup of laundry detergent and one cup of borax. She then puts the blanket in the mix and moves it around in the water with a stick; then she lets it soak for about an hour. After the soaking time, you can already notice that the water is visibly darker and cloudy than at the beginning (but this is not as evident some other videos of the same topic, also uploaded by the same TikToker).

The woman explains this: evidently the fibers of the blanket used by a child do not accumulate as much dirt as other items of household linen.

To better understand what we are talking about, you can watch the video on the page of the TikTokker in question and learn more about this incredible and very curious technique. Would you ever try it?
