Remove dog and cat hair from the sofa: try some simple and effective remedies

Having pets in the home is a great joy, even though it involves small sacrifices. For example, keeping the house clean of pet fur and hair must be done when dogs and cats are around.

As careful as we are, the hair of our four-legged friends gets almost everywhere - from clothes, to sofas (in particular), to furniture, pet hair gets all over the place. Here are some methods that can help you solve this problem:

  • Prevention: the fewer hairs there are to fall from our pets' coats, the less there will be to clean up. So, get in the habit of brushing pets with brushes that don't bother them (there are different types depending on the type of hair your dog or cat has).
  • Use the vacuum cleaner frequently: in shops, there are models that are designed specifically for those who have pets, and are equipped with various accessories to pick up hair in the home's nooks and crannies. But even a regular, powerful vacuum cleaner will be able to pick up more hair than a dustpan and brush.
  • Rubber gloves: when there is no time to vacuum, or you don't have one, put on a rubber glove, moisten it with water and rub your hand over the sofa. A lot of hair will be picked up and stick to the glove.
  • In a similar way to the rubber gloves, you can use a squeegee.
  • A wet sponge: a bit like the previous two methods, a wet sponge is also a great way to pick up hair, and in fact, there are those who also use sponges in the washing machine. The problem is that then removing hair from the sponge can be difficult.

  • Use the washing machine: if you can take strip the sofa, this is the best tactic to use after removing the bulk of the hair manually or with a vacuum cleaner. However, make sure you clean the filter and seals thoroughly after washing fabrics that were covered with animal hair.
  • Softener sheets: you can use used ones from the dryer, and pass them on the sofa so that they catch as many hairs as possible. When they are full of hair, throw them away.
  • An adhesive roller: this is one of the fastest remedies, excellent for emergencies. Just remove the film that covers the sticky part on each new layer and roll it over the sofa, just like you would on clothes. Similarly, you could also use duct tape - but this can be tiring and expensive.

What's your favorite method of removing your four-legged friends' hair from sofas?
