The passage of time does not spare anyone: with advancing years the tissues of our body lose tone and elasticity, and so the skin of the face shows wrinkles and signs of sagging. Genetics helps in some cases, cosmetic products suitable for each person are certainly excellent allies, but it is also possible to help yourself with simple exercises that involve the various muscles of the face.

This is facial yoga, or a practice according to which a series of movements are performed every day aimed at toning certain parts of the face, so as to get a more elastic skin and a younger appearance. Find out about the details below:

Forehead wrinkles are caused by all the expressions we make during the day, from frowning to opening your eyes wide in surprise or squinting when maybe there is too much light. To smooth out expression lines in a natural way, you can repeat these movements every day for a few minutes:

  • Form fists with your hands;
  • Bring your fists to the center of your forehead so that the knuckles of your index and middle fingers are pressing against the skin;
  • Breathe in deeply;
  • Continuing to apply pressure, slide your fists to the sides of the forehead, while exhaling slowly.

As the years go by, the upper lip becomes less elastic, and the prolabium (or subnasal sulcus) appears to lengthen. Wrinkles may also appear. To counter this, you can do a one-minute exercise daily as follows:

  • Insert the thumbs under the upper lip, with the fingernails and contact with the gums and fingertips pressing on the inner side of the lip. They must be in the center and there is no need to pull the lips down.
  • Meanwhile, move your upper lip muscles to push against your fingers, as if you want to close your lips around them.

Yoga cannot change the structure of the face, but it is possible to tone and stimulate the circulation of the muscles around the cheekbones so that they are then more defined. To do this you will have to:

  • Place the index and middle fingers on the inside of the cheekbone, near the nose and under the eyes.
  • Add the thumb just below, so as to pinch the muscle above and below.
  • Pinch, without pulling away but only sinking your fingers into the muscle and pressing, and move from the nose along the cheekbone towards the corner of the eye.

Repeat this exercise for one or two minutes a day.

To counter the sagging of the eyelids and the formation of wrinkles around the eyes, you can try these movements

First:

  • Place your hands on your forehead, so that the fingers are pointing towards the center.
  • Stretch the skin so that no wrinkles form.
  • Open your eyes and check that there are never wrinkles.
  • Maintain the position for ten seconds.

Second:

  • Place your index, middle and ring fingers over the septum and over the eyebrows. Both hands will be joined towards the center of the forehead.
  • The thumbs, on the other hand, grip the top of the head.
  • Pull the skin up a little, always without creating wrinkles, and open your eyes wide.
  • Maintain the pose for ten seconds.
