8 useful tips to make your bedroom a more welcoming and pleasant space

Furnishing a house always means finding the right balance between the functionality and liveability of each room. Thus, if the purpose of a bedroom is to be the space in which we take refuge after a tiring day or at the end of a busy week, to relax, recreate or recover strength with a healthy rest, it must be furnished in a way to induce relaxation.

To create the right atmosphere, which is intimate and welcoming, we can use a series of useful methods, ranging from colors and materials that make it more comfortable, to using accessories that will make us want to retreat into our cocoon of personal tranquility.

Relaxing colors

Unless it truly gives you peace to sleep in a room with intense or very dark colors, generally for our minds and our moods, the shades to prefer in an environment that is an oasis of relaxation are generally light, neutral and natural. They could be shades of blue with lighter touches to make us think of the sea or the sky; soothing greens to evoke the colors of nature in the countryside; or simply a range of grays or beiges, or even a white room for a bright ambience.

Wood and natural materials

Whether it's a piece of furniture, a single shelf or some accessory such as a basket or a vase holder, you will always find space for an object in natural materials and fibers, such as wood, wicker, straw.

And don't forget that some plants or flowers, but also dry branches, enrich the furniture with elements that make the house feel like a safe and comfortable space.

Leather and suede

Not everyone loves the idea of objects made with these materials, but for those who have no problems with them or resorting to synthetic or vegetable versions that imitate the texture and appearance of animal leather, these are materials that are just like wood. And they make a room warmer and more welcoming. They can also be just the profiles or cladding for a piece of furniture, a decorative object, or the seat of a bench at the end of the bed (or even the headboard itself) - and without dominating the overall look and style of the furniture.

A large carpet or rug

An area rug - that is those rugs that cover a large portion of a room - help to define the space, and just by seeing them, communicate a feeling of warmth and enveloping softness.

The bed is the star

The bed is definitely the main, and most important, piece of furniture in the room, so you can also be daring by choosing a structure that stands out, and that does not get lost amongst all the other furniture in the room (or remain in the metaphorical shadow of conspicuously decorated walls).

Curtains

Whether or not you decide to close them, curtains are important in a bedroom, precisely because, on occasion, they will make sure of your ability to screen the room from the outside, making it a truly private environment. Choose curtains that do not attract too much attention, either in color or size, especially if the windows are small.

Blankets and throws

Plenty of warm and soft blankets and throws in winter, but don't let them all disappear when the warm season arrives. Sometimes even in spring or summer, it is pleasant to lie down on the bed even without getting under the sheets and spending an afternoon or evening covered only by a blanket or light throw.

Lighting

Do not limit yourself to a single central light fitting and a couple of lamps on the bedside tables: it is good to modulate the lighting, even using floor lamps, or perhaps spotlights, to decide which part of the room to illuminate, or to leave darkened with suffused lighting (using so-called "indirect" lighting solutions) in the evening before going to sleep.

Are you ready to make your bedroom really cozy?
