Using candles to illuminate and decorate our homes is a surefire way to create a soft atmosphere that can hardly be recreated with electric light. The flickering of the flames, and perhaps also the perfume given off by the perfumed wax, are in fact, elements that contribute to making candles a truly unique decorative object. No less important is the way in which we decide to present the candles, or even the tealights, and if we want to be really creative we can resort to some DIY projects to do exactly this.

Below we present a tutorial that allows you to recycle tuna cans as candle holders to hang up and fill with candles:

What is needed:

  • Tuna cans. You can use 6 or more - it all depends on how many candles you want to use
  • Small candles, as many as the number of cans
  • Decoration paper (or even thin cloth)
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue
  • String
  • A wooden hanger, the kind with a rod for hanging trousers on
  • Cloth strips or bows (optional)

How to proceed:

  • Wash the cans perfectly. It is also essential that there are no sharp parts. Then after removing the lid entirely, use tweezers to bend any sharp edges in, or try to file them off. Another way to make it "harmless" could be to cover it with hot glue.
  • Cut out strips of colored paper or fabric to cover the outer edge of the cans, using the hot glue. Just leave a few drops of glue on the can and let the fabric or paper adhere to it, unfolding it well with your fingers to avoid any wrinkles.
  • Cut segments of string: since it is more beautiful to hang the cans at different heights, place the hanger on a table and place the cans at the points where you would like them to rest, then cut the string accordingly but always considering havubg 15-20 cm more free (for the length that is taken up by the circumference of each can and by the joining points).
  • Tie each piece of string around the cans, securing it firmly with a little glue. Make sure that the bows are at the top.
  • Tie the other end of the string to the rod of the wooden hanger
  • If you want, you can also decorate the hanger with fabric.
  • Hang up the hanger with the cans and insert a candle into each one. You are now ready to light the candles!

Really very simple! For more information, see this tutorial.
